A Venetian evening

Now I know, you read that I went to NYC just for the day, so you could be thinking, it's possible she went to Venice just for the day. Not this time (I have in the past). Instead, I attended the popular monthly happy hour at The Phillips Collection.

Phillips after 5 is a monthly happy hour that gets patrons to explore exhibits, drink, eat, and listen to music during the weeknight. It's been on my DC bucket list for a while. I finally made it.

This month's theme- A Venetian getaway- to complement the latest exhibit Seeing Nature landscape masterworks from the Paul G. Allen Family Collection. The exhibit was beautiful. Lots of paintings that capture the beauty of Venice- the canals.

Besides exploring the exhibit, there was lots to do. However the make your own Venetian mask was a disappointment. The location was too far from the band and the selection of materials was limited. Not many attendees spent time on this craft. If you wanted a poem on demand, there poets with type writers, the line was too long. But that would have been neat.

Folks were in three places- strolling the galleries, listening to live jazz, and getting something to eat & drink. The Natale Project put on a fantastic show. I couldn't get enough of the energy from the drummer. Lupo Verde, an Italian restaurant on the 14th Street Corridor, provided delicious nibbles and a culinary interactive art show. The bites of baklava and a crostini with a cod spread hit the spot while sipping prosecco. Unfortunately, the event was packed so I couldn't witness the culinary show by the chef. Next time.

Overall, my visit to 'Venice' was lovely.
