I discovered Anzio and fell in love with the charming little port town- filled with history and beautiful beach spots (or in Italian- stabilimenti) to enjoy the Tyrrhenian Sea.

Located about an hour train ride away from Rome, Anzio is a port town in Lazio. The minute you exit the train station you can smell and feel the sea breeze hit you. It's an easy walk to the main part of town and the beach. A fun family fact- this is the town where my father took his life guard exam back in the day.

Besides relaxing on the beach and eating fresh seafood, Anzio is home to The World War II Sicily-Rome American Cemetery and Memorial site. It's located to honor those who died in

liberation of Sicily (July 10 to August 17, 1943); in the landings in the Salerno Area (September 9, 1943) and the heavy fighting northward; in the landings at Anzio Beach and expansion of the beachhead (January 22, 1944 to May 1944); and in air and naval support in the regions.
