Ladispoli

One of my favorite parts about living in Rome is that you can get to the beach fast! During the hot summer months, I remember on Saturday mornings seeing Romans carrying beach chairs strapped over their shoulders at bus stops. Eagerly waiting for the bus to arrive so they can take the train to get to the beach.

When my Roman friend invited me to the beach town Ladispoli, I said yes. I couldn't resist. Ladispoli is a beach town- known for it's black sand. WHAT? No white sand? That's right. It's black for the iron in the soil (not dirty).

I fell in love with what I would call a far away suburb of Rome. A 30 minute train ride and you can get to the beach.

There's a beautiful fountain, re-purposed if you will, created by a huge column discovered at Termini station. (See below)

And there is the FRESH seafood...(look at those HUGE mussels)

And then over the summer there is an air show- showcasing Italy's finest- Frecce Tricolori. Details for the annual show.

I felt very welcomed as the main street (lungomare) is named after me (kidding). Rather it's name after Regina Elena. I can feel royal once in awhile right?

And there is a beautiful castle overlooking the sea... Castello di Palo...
