Jonas, the blizzard storm that covered just about the entire east coast in a white blanket of snow, delayed the start of Washington, D.C.'s restaurant week. But have no fear, I put on my red Hunter boots to climb over inches of brown snow compounded tight on the city's sidewalk to participate. That is -once the roads were clear.
B Too. That's where I spent a Thursday afternoon with my boyfriend. We made ourselves comfortable at the bar. It's a Belgium restaurant with a great selection of what else- Belgium beer and food.
The food was so good, that I forgot to take pictures of our appetizers. Take my word for it the tomato soup with the grilled cheese waffle hit the spot on a cold winter day. My bowl was empty. The lobster waffle was a pairing I would never imagine would go together.
Now on to the entrees.
The grilled hanger steak. Cooked medium with a pepper sauce and a side of frites. For meat lovers, this dish was very satisfying.
The mussels - this was the show stopper piece. Mussels and half a lobster tail steamed in a cognac sauce. I was in heaven and thankful for the meal. Best part- got to share both entrees with my boyfriend.
Every restaurant week menu comes with dessert- not the best if you are staying with a diet or just full from a delicious entree. But you can't say no to sweets.
So for dessert I ordered the B Too's Dame Blache tahitian vanilla ice cream, whipped cream, meringue, chocolate pearls, and hot chocolate sauce. And my boyfriend was feeling particularly Belgium that afternoon, and ordered the Belgium waffle- with strawberry jam, cream, and vanilla ice cream.
I'll be back to try their happy hour meal soon!
