NSO in Your Neighborhood

The official kick-off event for the annual NSO in Your Neighborhood for 2017 was at Arena Stage on January 4th. This year the National Symphony Orchestra scheduled various performances for the week of January 3-9 in Southeast and Southwest DC.

It was my first time hearing of and attending a performance for this wonderful community outreach program by the NSO. Whenever culture can be accessible to everyone I have a soft spot. Not everyone has the time or money to attend an evening at the theater. So I really appreciated the evening.

The evening was a chamber concert performance with NSO Concertmaster Nurit Bar-Josef (Violin) and NSO musicians Charles Nilles (Bass) and Joseph Connell (percussion) and guest pianist Anthony Nalker. The musicians performed suites by Claude Bolling (a French jazz pianist, composer, and sometimes actor).

At times, I felt like I was in a jazz club instead of Arena Stage. And not to mention, I loved the beautiful sparkling black jumpsuit that Nurit wore. Her fashion choice definitely accompanied the evening spectacularly!

I look forward to next year's NSO in Your Neighborhood event, wherever that may be!
